Annual old-time fiddle contest results announced Ken James of Brandon found himself in the spotlight briefly as he performed on the stage in Slagle Auditorium Saturday afternoon during the 27th annual Old Time Fiddlers Contest, held Sept. 17-19 on The University of South Dakota campus.The event was sponsored by America's Shrine to Music Museum, in collaboration with the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and First Dakota National Bank of Vermillion and Yankton. Fiddlers from Alabama, California, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota and Wisconsin joined South Dakota fiddlers in Slagle Auditorium on the campus of The University of South Dakota for the 27th annual South Dakota Old-Time Fiddle Contest, Sept. 17-19.
The event was sponsored by America's Shrine to Music Museum, in collaboration with the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and First Dakota National Bank of Vermillion and Yankton.
Winners of the National Invitational were: First place, Alita Stewart, Springfield, MO; second, John Lardinois, Bismarck, ND; third, Fred Stoneking, Springfield, MO; fourth, Gary Johnson, Nevada, MO; and fifth, Roy Crawford, Birmingham, AL.

South Dakota Senior/Senior: First, Ralph Saathoff, Estelline; second, Glen Solinger, Sioux Falls; third, Phil Eiserman, Sioux Falls. South Dakota Adult: First, Kari Blom, Sioux Falls; second, Stephanie Lynch, Burbank; third, Micheal Polk, Rapid City.
South Dakota Junior/Junior: First, Sophie Stevens, Yankton; second, Hannah Alsgaard, Yankton; third, Kate Ehresmann, Yankton.
