Authorities investigating report of sexual assault by M. Jill Sundstrom University of South Dakota Public Safety officers are investigating the report of an alleged sexual assault, reported in the early morning hours of Aug. 30.
We received a report at about 3 a.m. Monday from a 20-year-old female USD student who had attended a party off campus earlier in the evening, said Dan Burke, director of USD Public Safety. She was walking from her off-campus apartment to Julian Hall when the alleged assault took place in the grassy area east of the Akeley science building. There was alcohol involved.
Burke added that he is treating the incident as a reported rape, but we dont want to raise any alarm that theres a rapist running around on campus, he said. As we continue to investigate, the information we gather may clarify some of the events that occurred that night. But in the meantime well continue to treat this as a sexual assault case.
