Freshman Tanagers beat Elk Point-Jefferson 34-26 The Vermillion freshmen Lady Tanagers pulled away in the second half to beat the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 34-26 in girls basketball Aug. 31 at Vermillion.
The score was tied 8-8 at halftime.
�With only six players suited up, when two fouled out, the four against five made the final two minutes a very uncomfortable time,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn.
The Lady Tanagers committed only six turnovers in the victory.
The Lady Tanagers jumped ahead 6-2 after the opening period, the score was 8-8 after the second period, and the Lady Tanagers led 24-16 going into the fourth quarter.
VHS improved its record to 1-1, while EP-J dropped to 0-1.
VHS hit 8 of 17 free throw tries while the Huskies connected on 6 of 18 free throw tries.
