JV football team successful In a hard-fought, crisply played football game, the Tanager JV team held on for a 7-0 win Aug. 30 over the Madison Bulldogs.
Led by quarterback Brandon Benzel (1-4 passing) who found the halfbacks Dan Tolsma (136 yards/17 carries) and Eric Rickord (44 yards/13 carries) to fullfill the needs of producing the power, and wingback Adam Brooks (71 yards/5 carries) contributing the speed in carrying the team to victory.
Tolsma scored on a 17-yard run and Brooks kicked the extra point early in the second quarter. A stiff defense protected the lead with some sterling efforts by Dave Hanson (9 tackles), Dustin Larson (8 tackles), Thad Roche (7 tackles, 1 interception) and Chris Hoffman (2 interceptions) who also took over the quarterback duties in the fourth quarter gaining 52 yards on 8 carries.
The high school football field was nearly full of interested fans for the 5 p.m. game.
