Lady Tanagers defeat Dakota Valley Panthers by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Lady Tanagers defeated the Dakota Valley Panthers 52-43 in girls basketball Aug. 26 at home.
Vermillion�s Leslie Larson had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. The Panthers� Sarah Harms had 20 points and was 12 of 14 from the free throw line.
The Lady Tanagers trailed 15-10 at the end of the first period, led 26-24 at halftime, and then led 38-32 after the third quarter.
In the second quarter, Leslie Larson had 8 points to carry the load in helping the team make 16 points resulting in a 26-24 halftime lead.
In the fourth period, Alison Obr made a 3-pointer early in the period to give a 41-34 lead and Jackie Powell followed with a 3-pointer to build the lead. Tessa Tuetken also scored all of her points late in the game (4-7 free throws and a 2-pointer).
VHS improved its record to 1-1, while DV varsity dropped to 0-1.
VHS made 11 of 21 from the line while the Panthers hit 17 of 29 free throw tries.
