Marathon game meets success Forty-five youth and adults participated in the 10-hour Marathon Baseball/Softball Game held at Lions Park in Vermillion on July 24. This event was a fundraiser to purchase a Juggs Pitching Machine for the Vermillion youth programs.
The format for the event was a rotation every 2 1/2 hours from softball to baseball with everyone getting plenty of opportunity to hit against the machine. The last two sessions pitted the youth in opposition to their parents and other guests.
The goal of $2,200 has been reached with 68 contributions from individuals and businessess throughout the community. Any additional funds received will go toward the purchase of special balls to be used with the equipment and for the construction of a batting cage. Anyone wishing to make a contribution can send it to the Pitching Machine Fund; PO Box 276; Vermillion, SD 57069.
