Midwest Homes/Players Tavern competing in national tournament Vermillion's Midwest Homes/Players Tavern Men's Softball team is competing in the National ASA (American Softball Association) Class C Tournament, Sept. 23-26. Lawton, OK is the hosting site for over 75 teams from around the United States vying for the national title.
Midwest Homes/Players Tavern received word of their spot in the national tournament after winning the State "B" Tournament in Pierre. They defeated Galland Legal Clinic from Sioux Falls, 25-15, in the final game to clinch the state title and finish their season with an impressive 53-15 record.
Steve Mayer, Midwest Homes/Players Tavern manager, feels positive heading into the tournament. "I'm sure we will face stiff competition from all over the nation. I feel that South Dakota has comparable and competitive softball ability. We are looking forward to a great four days of softball and making a respectable showing at nationals," he said.
Members of the Midwest Homes/Players Tavern include Greg Sammelson, Rusty Jensen, Bob Young, Dave Addy, Steve Mayer, Tim Zobel, Jason Boever, Gabe Pieper, Mark Jones, Troy Terronez, Jeff Johnson, Scott Hohenthaner, John Finken, Rod Birdsell, Joe Hollinger, Kelly Heller and Eric Schoh. They are sponsored by Dave Hertz and Mike Gukeise.
The final scores of the Midwest Homes/Players Tavern games will be broadcast on KVHT 106.3 following each day of competition.
