Nominations sought for 'Retailer of Year' award The South Dakota Retailers Association is seeking nominations for the Retailer of the Year award.
The award is presented each year to a retail store owner or manager who consistently provides outstanding customer service and is also actively involved in the community. Individuals and couples who own or manage a retail store are eligible.
Nominations for the Retailer of the Year award must reach the Retailers Association office by Nov. 12 to be considered. A committee of retailers from throughout the state will select the winner. The recipient will be honored at the SDRA Awards Banquet in Pierre on Jan. 10, 2000.
SDRA Awards Committee Chairman Greg Gemar of Gemar's Market in Scotland says the award provides a way for customers, business groups and employees to honor retail businesses which deserve recognition for their contribution to the local community.
"The Retailer of the Year award is a way to recognize retailers who are leaders not only as business people, but also in the things that need to happen to keep a community strong and a good place to live," Gemar said. "We want to honor business people who realize that customers are important not only for their own well being, but also for the well being of their employees retailers who work hard to keep their businesses current and a pleasant place to shop."
Finalists for the award receive a Certificate of Distinguished Service. Previous winners have come from every size of community throughout South Dakota, and have operated businesses as diverse as grocery stores, computer stores, electronics businesses, clothing stores, hardware, stores, shoe stores, gift shops, restaurants and pharmacies.
