Openings are available for 'outdoors-woman' workshop The very popular "Becoming An Outdoors-Woman" workshop, sponsored by South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, still has openings.
The weekend will be held Sept. 17-19 at the United Methodist Church Camp on Lake Poinsett. One hundred people can participate each year, and the registration list is about three-quarters full.
"This is a weekend for anyone, not just women, over the age of 18 to learn and practice basic outdoor skills," said Maggie E. Hachmeister, Education Services coordinator for the Wildlife Division. "Participants choose four classes they would like to take during the weekend. There are classes related to fishing and boating, to hunting and shooting, and others that are non-consumptive, like biking, canoeing, camping and bird watching."
The cost for the weekend is $140 and includes all instruction, use of equipment, two nights lodging and seven meals. A number of half-price scholarships available for students, single parents or those who may have difficulty in meeting the registration cost.
