Tanager soccer team improves record to 7-5 The Tanager girls soccer team improved its record to 7-5 with a 3-2 victory over #5 ranked Brookings in a game played Tuesday in Sioux Falls. Kayla Larson led the attack with two goals, while freshman Mandy Winckler netted the winning goal in the 78th minute. Natasha Peton and Hilary Pederson split goalkeeping duties for the Tanagers.
The Tanagers have been plagued with injuries all season, with as many as five starters out of the lineup in some games. Senior Midfielder Kim Hoffman has been out since Aug. 31 with an injured kneecap, while freshman Striker Michelle Rasmussen was retired for the season on Sept. 7 with a fractured ankle. Junior Sweeper Amy Petekavich was lost for two games on Sept. 16 when she suffered a head concussion from a kicked ball.
Despite losses to all four Sioux Falls high school teams, the Tanagers are currently ranked #7 in the state. The Tanagers travel to Pierre this Saturday for games with Rapid City Stevens and Rapid City Central. Next home game for the Tanagers is Saturday, Oct. 2, against Spearfish.
