Tanagers outlast Watchdogs By Jim Prosser In a �hard-nose,� �smash-mouth� football in Beresford last Friday, Vermillion survived a charged-up Watchdog team in a tough, but cleanly played, game between two traditional foes on the gridiron.

Individual stats for Vermillion: Roche 87 yards/20 carries; Thedorff 70 yards/12 carries; Jason Madsen 11 yards/three carries; Iverson 32 yards/three carries.
Defense stats: Tackles � Brandon Belzel and Cullen Iverson (eight each), Landon Morse (seven), Travis Vacek (six), Anthony Senne, Jason Madson and Wes Christensen (five each) Chrisensen had a fumble recovery, and Benzel intercepted a pass and returned it four yards to set up the first TD.
Coach�s comments: Gary Culver � �It was a typical Beresford-Vermillion football game. Hard-hitting and played all-out for the four quarters. We still need to eliminate turnoners and mental mistakes but we are certainly pleased to get a win at Beresford. Their coaching staff did a great job preparing the Watchdogs for this game!�
With the win, the varsity upped their record to 3-0 and will next be in action as they host the Madison Bulldogs Friday, Sept. 17 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in the DakotaDome.
