The Bluffs Bulletin Board Wednesday Evening Ladies League

With the league golfing season over, the ladies decided to have one last fun night. The first annual WELL Derby Golf Tournament was a big success! Thanks to Diane Duin, Judy Hanson and Jenny Chandler for organizing this event.

Each team consisted of two golfers one with a lower handicap and one with a higher handicap. Six teams went out to hole #1, six to #4 and six to #7. Both members would tee off, select the drive they wanted and then hit alternate shots until the hole is finished. The highest scoring team dropped out and became the cheering section for the rest of those playing until we were down to one team. The three finalist teams went out again on #1 to determine the winner.

The third place team was Nancy Scheidel/Audrey Ticknor; second place team was Mary Ellen Jensen/Deb Larson and the winners were Lynette Wulf/Julie May. The six golfers all received a gift certificate. Kathy Anderson won the Quackson drawing. See you next year!

Senior Mens League

On Tuesday, Sept. 7, 34 seniors had fun on the back nine. The weather was very cooperative with a cool day and moderate breeze.

Jerry Sommervold had two guests and they put on a fine exhibition coming in with a score of 32. We enjoyed having these talented golfers on our course. They were Maurice Rasmussen of Sioux City, IA, a Vermillion "boy", and Gray Bailey, a fine golfer from Atlanta, GA.

Our regular prize winners for the day were: at 37 Sid Davis, Cal Peterson and Don Mitchell; at 38 the teams of: Stan Munger, Max Anderson and Ray DeVilbiss; Elmer Mount, Pat Boyle and Maurice Erickson; Shorty Hanson, Don Goebel and Jim Grabowski; and Mel Marcotte, Howard Connors and Ray Mount.

Our nominees for shot of the day include Sid Davis for a chip-in on #13, Elmer Mount for a 40-foot birdie putt on #17, and Don Baer for a 45-foot birdie putt on #17.

It was a good day with fun for all. Join us next Tuesday (and each Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. for food and 12:30 p.m. for golf.

Mens League

Mens League playoff results of finals on Sept. 7:

The American Division #1 seed Bluffs Boys salvaged a 6-4 win in the consolation match against National Division #6 seed Green Thumbs.

The final league championship match found National Division #5 seed Cowboys losing 8-2 to American Division #5 seed Recuerdo's.

This completes the Mens League activities for the 1999 season. BUT WATCH FOR MENS DAY SPECIAL EVENTS (like The Bluffs Ryder Cup Tournament on Sept. 14 and 21).

Ladies Golf and Bridge

A hint of fall was in the air Wednesday at The Bluffs as President Helen Brown welcomed a good crowd. The committee served 62 people for lunch including two Vermillion guests.

Lynn Hatle, secretary, recounted the "good golf, good friends and good times" we've had for the month of August and Ardyce Meisenholder, treasurer reported on the status of the treasury.

Having a good time on the golf course playing "3-man scramble" were Darlene Engbrecht, Lynn Hatle and Fran Mount coming in first. Second place went to the team of JoAnn Beringer, Dorothy Dahlman and Edith Nelson. Finishing third was Carol Clodfelter, Fritz Lefler and Julia Chaney.

Two of the pitch players, Eleanor Offerdahl and Leone Christopherson, successfully "shot the moon." Marge Rasmussen, Frances Mollet, Margaret Melby and Leone Christopherson all managed to win one game as well.

Pat Olson did it again at the bridge table taking high. The sister act Riedella Engman and Deanne Christopherson took second and third place. Doris Mitchell came in fourth and Kay Heikes, fifth.

Ardth Baer was the lucky $10 winner in the drawing and Edith Nelson and Deanne Christopherson won $5 apiece.

Would you believe we only have four Wednesdays left to gather together for this season! Fall is in the air!
