VHS cross country season opens Aug. 27 On a hot and humid day 10 schools were represented at the Madison "Earlybird" cross country meet, Aug. 27 with competition in both boys and girls divisions, varsity and JV.
First runner across the finish line was Sioux Falls Lincoln's Simon Dakteng, while Vermillion's Eric Dehner placed third, Jordan Thompson ninth, and John Ring 12th, in the boys division.
Other placers for the Tanagers were:
18th � Ross Solberg, 22nd � Tyler Engstrom, 31st � Ben Parsons and 34th � Leland Smith.
For the girls, Kristin Peterson from Arlington was first and Tanager placers were:
Cathy Plate � 6th, Michelle Rasmussen � 10th, Megan Griffith � 16th. Following at 21st, 22nd and 23rd were Beth Pier, Natalie Tuetken and Emily Pier, respectively.
JV boys finishers for the Tanagers were:
Shane Manning � 5th, Josh Kyte � 18th, Dan Ring � 19th, and at 23rd, 24th and 25th � Wilbur Lio, Justin Manning and Mitch Bierle, followed at 32nd by James Clark.
JV girls finishers:
Nicole Beitz � 4th, Theresa Ring � 6th, Kelly Peterson � 10th, Angie Rydell � 11th, Vicky Lio � 20th and at 24th, 25th and 26th were Carly Bernard, Sarah Plate and Amritha Subramanian.
According to Coach Dave Dannenbring, "The kids had an excellent meet and we are pleased with their training and condition at this point of the season."
