VHS freshmen rally to defeat Beresford 28-18 By by Jim Prosser The Vermillion freshmen Lady Tanagers rallied in the second half and then pulled away to beat the Beresford freshmen Watchdogs 28-18 in girls basketball Sept. 7 at Beresford.
VHS had trailed by one at halftime in a game where the Lady Tanagers held the Watchdogs to only 7 field goals.
�We played very well defensively throughout the entire game,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn. �We need to continue to improve at the offensive end but we are making progress. It was a good win against a big rival.�
The Lady Tanagers led 8-6 at the end of the first period, trailed 9-8 at halftime, and then led 16-12 going into the fourth quarter.
VHS now has a record of 2-1, while BHS fell to 1-2.
VHS hit 4 of 4 free throw tries while the Watchdogs hit 4 of 6 free throw attempts.
