VHS girls tennis suffers its first loss By Jim Prosser Yankton�s coach Tim Mulhair brought a fired-up Gazelle team to Vermillion on Thursday, Sept. 9 and watched them avenge the season opening loss to the Tanagers by reversing the score to 6-3.
Anna Ristic defeated Abby Schaap (10-6) and Lindsay Iverson won over Brittany Wilson (10-3) for the only varsity singles victories. In doubles, Anna Ristic/Maya Ristic defeated Schaap/Wilson (10-6).
Yankton High School dominated Vermillion�s remaining matches as follows: Kyna Williams defeated Maya Ristic (10-7); Leah Branaugh defeated Laura Doohen (10-5); Julie Hunhoff defeated Brenda Banks (11-10) (7-5 in playoff) and Anne Gross defeated Vanessa Noonan (10-5).
In doubles, Williams/ Branaugh defeated Doohen/Noonan (10-6) and Hunhoff/Abby Washburn defeated Iverson/Banks (10-5).
JV results were: Adrianne Lindquist, Y, defeated Tori Collins, Vermillion (8-2); Erin Stanage, Yankton defeated Catherine Odson, Vermillion (9-8) (7-4 in playoff); � Jessica Leffers won her match and, due to time constraints Justine Reimnitz tied her match, as did doubles partners Deanna Russell/ Leffers.
