Clay County Old Settlers Association gathers September 19 The Clay County Old Settlers Association meeting was held Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Vermillion Senior Citizens Center. This was the 102nd reunion of the oldest continuous organization in Clay County.
Clif Manley of Vermillion opened the meeting with a prayer before the roast beef dinner, prepared by Delores Gregg and her helpers, was served.
Eighty-seven guests were registered by Leone Christopherson, Roberta Bensen and Louise Eklund and reservations were paid to Jean Mockler, Linda Sorensen and Arlis Johnson.
DonaDee Peterson, president, opened the program following the dinner and conducted a business meeting with the secretary's report by Linda Sorensen and the treasurer's report by Jean Mockler. Both reports were accepted as read.
The slate of officers elected for the year 2000 will be DonaDee Peterson, president, Betty Jensen, vice-president, Linda Sorensen, secretary and Jean Mockler, treasurer.
Zachary Holoch, eighth-grader and son of Duane and Connie Holoch, gave an entertaining program of music and vocal renditions.

Oldest man living longest in Clay County � Herbert Christopherson, 89 years;
Oldest woman present and living longest in Clay County � Mabel Jorgenson, 103-years-old and 102 years in Clay County;

Couple married most recently � Duane and Connie Holoch, 21 years;
Youngest person present � Courtney Johnson, 4-years-old;
Persons coming the farthest � Harold and Joan Cusick, Mesa, AZ, 1,400 miles.
