Connors recital Oct. 6 at USD The University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts will host a recital by soprano Carla Connors on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Included in the repertoire will be works by Handel, Faure, Bizet, Warlock and Duke. A 1979 graduate of USD, Connors is appearing as part of the University's Alumni Leadership Week.
Connors has found success singing in operas, with orchestras, and in recital. She has performed over 20 operatic roles with several companies, including New York City Opera National Company, Glimmerglass, Atlanta, Orlando, Opera Carolina, and Chautauqua Opera companies. In addition, she has toured for the Florida Grand Opera and Michigan Opera Theatre. Her active schedule of orchestra and recital appearances has taken her across the U.S., Europe and Australia.
Honored for her singing, Connors won the American Song Competition sponsored by the New York Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, for which she was presented in recital at Weill Recital Hall. Also in New York, she was awarded first prize in the 1993 Lola Wilson Hayes Vocal Artists Award. She has received the Eleanor Steber Award for Excellence in the Concert Field, won the National Young Artist Competition, sponsored by the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and the Music Guild of Boca Raton's Vocal Competition.
Collaborating with Connors is pianist Timothy Hoekman.
