Cross country teams compete in Hawarden In an eight-team invitational meet at West Sioux of Hawarden, on Friday, Oct. 8, with competition in both boys and girls divisions, varsity and J.V., the Tanagers placed four runners in the top 20 of the Class A varsity boys section to finish in third place with a score of 102.
Vermillion's Eric Dehner placed 10th with a time of 16:59. Darryl Neufeld was 17th (17:34), John Ring 19th (17:37), Jordan Thompson 20th (17:39) and Ben Parsons 36th (18:33) to complete the scoring places for Vermillion's varsity.
Other placers for the Tanagers were: Shane Manning 40th and Tyler Engstrom 51st.
For the girls, the Tanagers also placed third in Class A varsity with a score of 75.
Individual placers were: Cathy Plate ninth (13:27); Angie Rydell 12th (13:35); Emily Pier 14th (13:38); Beth Pier 18th (13:56); Natalie Tuetken 22nd (14:01) and Theresa Ring 25th(14:03).
J.V. Tanager girls had an incomplete team but finished with the first place winner, Michelle Rasmussen (13:45), and at 16th Amritha Subramanium (15:32).
J.V. Tanager boys competing were: Josh Kyte 20th (19:37) and James Clark 47th (21:21).
