DARE Report By Officer Chad Gillen Learning assertiveness This week in D.A.R.E. students learned that being assertive and standing up for themselves is very important. The class discussed how assertiveness allows us to state our own rights while still respecting the rights of other people. The class participated and demonstrated being assertive by role-playing.
Listed below are several topics for discussion to help you reinforce what your child learned:
* Name three different response styles that were discussed in class (Passive, assertive, aggressive)
* Have your child demonstrate an assertive response to an offer to use a drug.
* How can being assertive help us to avoid pressure to use drugs or do things that are wrong?
Please feel free to contact me if you wish to attend your child's D.A.R.E. class: Officer Chad J. Gillen, Vermillion Police Department, phone 677-7070.
