Eighth-grade Tanagers fall to Lennox teams The eighth-grade girls' basketball team battled a good Lennox team but came up short in the fourth quarter to lose by nine, 34-25. Kayla Mollet led all scorers with six points, followed by Colette Joy who scored five points before leaving the game due to a shoulder injury. Kristen Kitto and Sarah Merrigan each had four points. Brittney Gilkyson scored three points, Winonah Wilch had two and Kathleen Redlin rounded out the scoring column with one. Joy led the Redbirds in rebounds grabbing six. Kitto, Mollet and Redlin each snagged four boards. Gilkyson handled the ball well and managed to dish our four assists. The A team is now 3-3 on the season.
"The girls played hard, but once again rebounding and a good full court press took us our of the game," said Coach Iverson.
The B team battled right into overtime losing to the Lennox Ladybirds by one, 27-28. Winonah Wilch came off the bench to lead the Redbirds with 10 points. Delayna Gale scored six points followed by Hilary Babcock and Ashley Hofer who each scored four points. Nicki Nelson added three points for the team. Heather Heine and Gale each had six rebounds. Gale also managed to steal the ball five times for the Redbirds. The B team is now 1-2 on the season.
