Fall cleanup, free disposal planned at Vermillion landfill The city of Vermillion Landfill and Missouri Valley Recycling center will be open two Saturdays for fall cleanup.
Both facilities will be open Nov. 6 and Nov. 13, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The landfill will receive residential yard waste (leaves and separated small brush) free of charge Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5 and 6 and Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13.
All other landfill disposal materials will be received at normal rates. Remember to separate appropriate materials, tires, metals, yard waste and household refuse. It saves you money and time. Take care to tie down or tarp all loads and keep our highways clean of debris.
The city of Vermillion Missouri Valley Recycling Center will be celebrating "Recycle America Day" Saturday, Nov. 13 at the facility at 840 North Crawford Road. Come and help us celebrate with KOSZ-KVHT's remote broadcast and refreshments. "Buy recycled" products will be displayed as will the award winning entries of the "Care E. Bug Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Coloring Contest."
The recycling center pays a percentage of market price for aluminum cans and clean copper, brass and aluminum scrap. Other materials accepted include corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, office paper including junk mail and shred paper, books, tin cans and plastic #1 and #2.
