Fourth-quarter rally too much for Tanagers The Vermillion JV Lady Tanagers ended up on the wrong side of a fourth-quarter rally and were topped by the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors 40-35 in girls basketball Sept. 25 at Vermillion.
VHS had led by three after the third quarter.
VHS jumped ahead 13-5 after the first quarter, but was outscored 12-8 in the second period and 10-9 in the third to lead 30-27 going into the final period.
VHS saw its record fall to 7-2, while WHS upped its mark to 6-2.
VHS sank 12 of 22 from the line while the Warriors sank 4 of 17 free throw tries.
Although defeated, the Lady Tanagers had a number of fine individual efforts.
�We played well throughout the game but then in the fourth quarter the Sioux Falls Washington zone gave us problems and we could only muster 1 field goal,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. �Individually, Abby Moore had 7 rebounds, and Meggie Donnelly had 5 rebounds. We had pretty balanced scoring throughout the lineup.�
