Freshman football team suffers 2nd loss to SC East Vermillion High School's freshman football team faced Sioux City East Sept. 21 for the second time within three weeks and finished with the same result.
The out-manned Tanager freshmen lost a 27-0 verdict to a very talented Sioux City East squad at the VHS football field.
It was a defensive struggle throughout the first half with neither team able to generate much offense. The Tanagers played a hard-fought game but the second half saw East take advantage of VHS turnovers
to score three times. It was a frustrating day for the team as they moved the ball offensively but were plagued by turnovers.
With the loss the season record dipped to 0-4.
"It was a much closer game than the final score would indicate," said Coach Devin Schwiesow. "Defensively, we played well but you can't turn the ball over as many times as we did and expect to hold a talented team like East out of the endzone.
"We moved the ball effectively against East but 'shot ourselves in the foot' with turnovers at crucial times," added Jason Huska. "You can't give a team like them a short field to work with because you know they're going to score if you do. We just have to regroup and prepare for the next game."
