Freshman Lady Tanagers win a well-played contest The Vermillion freshman Lady Tanagers beat the Lennox Orioles 39-31 in girls basketball Oct. 7 at Lennox as the winners led after each quarter.
Kaylie Heesch scored 10 points, pulled down 4 rebounds, made 4 steals and had 4 assists.
�Kaylie had an outstanding performance,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn.
The Lady Tanagers led 11-6 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 23-12 at halftime, and then led 31-21 going into the final period.
The contest was well-played, with the Lady Tanagers committing only 9 turnovers and the Orioles committing only 8.
�The girls played a very spirited game throughout, especially on defense,� said Coach Martyn.
VHS improved its season mark to 4-5, while Lennox freshman fell to 2-7.
VHS connected on 9 of 15 from the line while the Orioles made 3 of 6 free throw attempts.
