Freshman Redbirds fall to Brandon Valley The Vermillion freshman Lady Tanagers were downed by the Brandon Valley Lynx 47-33 in girls basketball Sept. 18 at Brandon after being buried by a first-half deficit.
�We played well again defensively, but shot poorly in the first half,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn. �We made a good run in the second half but couldn�t make up the early lead they had.�
The Brandon Valley freshmen jumped in front 13-4 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 13-6 in the second quarter. The Redbirds had an advantage of 12-8 in the third period to cut the deficit to 34-22 going into the final period.
VHS saw its record fall to 2-2, while the Brandon Valley freshman team upped its mark to 4-0.
VHS hit 5 of 11 free throw tries while the Lynx hit 7 of 9 free throw attempts.
The Lady Tanagers had several noteworthy individual efforts in defeat.
�Morgan Hollingsworth individually played very well, both ways, for us,� Coach Martyn said.
