Freshman Tanagers defeat EP-J Huskies The Vermillion freshman Lady Tanagers downed the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 30-21 in girls basketball Oct. 18 at Elk Point as the winners led after each quarter.
Alison Stewart scored 9 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and made 4 steals.
The Lady Tanagers jumped in front 8-5 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 16-11 at halftime, and then held a lead of 23-15 after the third period.
�The girls played a good, aggressive defense for the entire game,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn.
VHS improved its record to 5-5, while Elk Point-Jefferson freshmen dropped to 4-5.
VHS connected on 4 of 8 free throw attempts while the Huskies sank 1 of 2 from the line.
A number of excellent individual efforts highlighted the win.
�Brooke Nelson scored 9 points and made 3 assists,� Coach Martyn said.
