Freshman Tanagers defeat Panthers 46-25 The Vermillion freshman Lady Tanagers pulled away in the second half to overcome the Dakota Valley Panthers 46-25 in girls basketball Sept. 27 at Dakota Valley in a win keyed by a 16-4 third-quarter run.
Morgan Hollingsworth scored 15 points, sinking 5 of 6 free throws, pulled down 8 rebounds and had 2 assists.
The Lady Tanagers jumped in front 8-5 after the first quarter, led 18-13 at halftime, and then held a lead of 34-17 after the third quarter.
�We had good game performance on both offense and defense,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn.
VHS improved its season mark to 3-2, while DV freshmen fell to 2-3.
VHS connected on 8 of 19 free throw tries while the Panthers sank 4 of 18 free throw tries.
A number of excellent individual efforts highlighted the win.
�Whitney Tolsma scored 13 points, and had 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals,� Coach Martyn said.
