Girls tennis team loses on the road The Vermillion High School girls tennis team embarked on a long road trip of four away matches by losing to one of the top high school tennis programs in the state.
#1 Anna Ristic suffered her first loss of the season to Liz Donahue, arguably the #1 or #2 girls high school tennis player in South Dakota, with a 4-10 decision.
"Anna played a very competitive match and showed she can meet the best in the state on even terms and not feel disappointed," said Coach Barb Rickord.
Maya Ristic, playing the #2 spot, defeated Jessica Lewis (10-6) while the remaining Tanager #3 and #4 players, Lindsay Iverson and Laura Doohen, lost close matches. Also defeated were #5 Brenda Banks and #6 Vanessa Noonan.
In doubles, the O'Gorman first two pairs won their matches with Ristic/Ristic losing a very close (10-7) decision to Donahue/Lewis, and Doohen/
Noonan falling (10-3) to Meier/Schultz. Lindsay Iverson was joined with returning Tracey Walworth (injury) and defeated Stelzer/Ludens (10-7), making the final team score O'Gorman 7, Vermillion 2.
