Go-cart racers win top honors at season's end Karl Brewer, 10, Vermillion, earned first place in overall points for the season as he raced this year in the JR1 Sportsman Class of the Dakota Kart Club of Sioux Falls.
Fellow racers Joey Brewer, 8, and J.R. Moore, 8, both of Vermillion, earned third and sixth place, respectively.
This is the first year that all three have raced go-carts. There are 18 go-carts in their class and members are from South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.
Karl Brewer, who also won Rookie of the Year honors that are chosen from all nine classes with a total of 159 drivers, won two feature races this summer, both in Renner. Moore took second place in overall points in a race at Blencoe, IA.
Racers from age 8 to 40 and above, including boys, girls, men and women, compete against each other. Other races were held in Brookings, and Allendorf, IA.
Parents of the Vermillion racers are Reda and Todd Brewer and Kim and Jim Moore.
