The baby died Oct. 11 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
"He (Olson) was arrested Friday morning before the baby's funeral," said Clay County Sheriff Dusty Passick. "He was immediately arraigned and was remanded to the custody of the sheriff's department."
Olson, who had been an officer for USD Public Safety, has been charged with two counts: 1) murder in the second degree, a Class B felony, and 2) manslaughter in the first degree, a Class 1 felony. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
A motion has been granted to "prohibit the prosecution and defense counsel from discussing any aspect of the prosecution of this matter with representatives of the media or with persons who have contacts with media while this case is at issue."
Jordyn's mother, Maria, is a Vermillion police officer. Funeral services for Jordyn were held Friday.
