Junior varsity football team still undefeated after Lennox The Vermillion High School junior varsity football team remained undefeated as they beat the Lennox Orioles 13-8 at the Lennox Athletic Complex on Oct. 11.
With the win, the junior varsity upped their record to 7-0 and will close out their season on Oct. 18 as they host the Yankton Bucks at the Vermillion High School field. Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m.
In Lennox, Vermillion had 223 yards total offense (223 yards rushing, 0 yards passing), compared to the Orioles' 74 yards (64 yards rushing and 10 yards passing).
Dan Tolsma rushed 19 times for 115 yards and scored two TDs. Dave Hanson rushed 15 times for 84 yards. Oliver Hope, Dave Hanson and Tim Russell each broke up one pass. Adam Brooks had one interception.
Thad Roche, four with a QB sack; Clint Christensen, Adam Brooks, Ray O'Connor, Dustin Larson and Ryan Pickett each had three; Dave Hanson, Tyler Vacek and Oliver Hope each had two; Don O'Connor and Tim Russell each had a QB sack; Eric Rickord and Kris Hoffman each had one tackle.
"It was a defensive game, as the score might indicate," said Coach Jim McGuire. "We moved the ball effectively on the ground, especially in the fourth quarter. Anytime you can hold a team to 74 yards in total offense, you're doing something right defensively."
"Our offensive line did another great job throughout the game," added Roger Heirigs. "We controlled the football for much of the game, as the statistics indicate. Lennox has traditionally been a tough place to play at for Vermillion, so anytime you get a win you have to be happy."
