JV Lady Tanagers defeat Orioles 43-27 The Vermillion JV Lady Tanagers pulled away in the last stanza to beat the Lennox Orioles 43-27 in girls basketball Oct. 7 at Lennox.

VHS had led by only five heading into the final quarter.

Nicki Mollet scored 14 points, pulled down 9 rebounds and had 2 steals.

�Nicki played her most aggressive basketball this season,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. �When she puts her mind to it, she�s difficult to stop.�

The Lady Tanagers led 13-8 after the first quarter, led 15-14 after the second quarter, and then led 27-22 going into the final period.

�With the exception of the second quarter, the girls played a solid game,� said Coach Terronez. �We did the little things necessary to win down the line, including accurate free throw shooting.�

VHS improved its season mark to 7-3.

VHS hit 14 of 21 free throw attempts while the Orioles made 3 of 8 free throw tries.

The Lady Tanagers had several fine individual efforts in the victory.

�Tessa Tuetken was 4-4 in free throws, including a 3-pointer to score all 7 points in the fourth quarter,� Coach Terronez said.
