JV Tanagers easily defeat Harrisburg The Vermillion JV Lady Tanagers beat the Harrisburg Tigers 59-43 in girls basketball Oct. 22 at Vermillion as the winners led after each quarter.
Nikki Mollet scored 19 points and pulled in 10 rebounds. Tessa Tuetken scored 15 points, and had 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. She played only two quarters.
�Nicki, Tessa and Corey played at the top of their games,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. �We wanted them to shoot the ball, and they got the job done. The other players also recognized who had the hot hand and fed them the ball.�
The Lady Tanagers took the lead 17-12 after the first quarter, and margins of 10-5 and 15-10 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 42-27 going into the final period.
The Lady Tanagers forced 24 Harrisburg junior varsity turnovers to give a boost to the victory.
�When a team has three people in double figures, it makes them hard to beat,� said Coach Terronez. �We happened to be that team.�
VHS improved its season mark to 10-3.
VHS sank 8 of 17 from the line while the Tigers hit 16 of 30 from the line.
VHS held a 32-20 edge on the boards.
Several significant individual efforts contributed to the win.
�Corey Engstrom scored 14 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and made 3 steals,� Coach Terronez said.
