Lady Tanager freshmen down Washington 37-29 The Vermillion freshmen Lady Tanagers downed the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors 37-29 in girls basketball Sept. 25 at Vermillion as the winners led after each quarter.
Jenna Gilkyson scored 8 points, pulled down 5 rebounds, and also had 1 steal and 3 assists.
The Lady Tanagers led 7-4 after the opening period, led 14-10 at halftime, and then held a lead of 26-18 going into the fourth quarter.
VHS improved its season mark to 3-3.
VHS connected on 7 of 10 from the line while the Warriors connected on 5 of 10 free throw tries.
The Lady Tanagers had several important contributors in the close win.
�We again played very well defensively and also stepped up our game at the offensive end,� said VHS Coach Marilyn Martyn. �This was a great win for our girls.�
