Marching to win third place The Vermillion High School "Pride of the Tanagers" Marching Band had a good reason to feel proud following their performance Saturday morning in the Quad State Field Competition held in the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The Vermillion High School "Pride of the Tanagers" Marching Band had a good reason to feel proud following their performance Saturday morning in the Quad State Field Competition held in the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The band tied for third in Class 2A competition with a band from Cherokee, IA. Only two other bands in Class 2A performed better than Vermillion, according to the competition's six judges. MOC-Floyd Valley, IA placed first, and Luverne, MN placed second. The Sweepstakes Award was presented to Sioux Falls Lincoln. Twenty-eight bands in four classes participated. The USD department of music hosted the event.
