Poker Alice, Terry & Lu will headline Chili Blues The ninth annual Chili Blues Festival kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Washington Street Art Center, 202 Washington Street, Vermillion.
The Poker Alice Band and local favorites Terry & Lu will provide an evening of blues-y selections while chili-lovers delight in samples of an anticipated 15 recipes from area chili-meisters!
Outdoor music with Terry & Lu, plus ticket and beverage sales begin at 5 p.m., serving begins at 6 p.m., with tunes by Poker Alice starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Coffee Shop Gallery, Nook 'n Cranny, and the Washington Street Arts Center in Vermillion. Tickets are $8 adults/$6 children and $7/$5 for Vermillion Arts Council members.
Entries for "chili-meisters" will be accepted through Oct.5 � leave a message at 605-624-4342 or call Jolane at 605-624-8367 for an entry form. Prizes awarded for first-, second-, and third-place winners as determined by a panel of chili-lovin' judges. First-place winner receives the official traveling Chili Blues trophy created by USD Art Professor Marty Wanserski, and a $50 gift certificate from Julie Strathman at "From the Ground Up" center and organic food farm.
Sponsored by the Vermillion Area Arts Council, this annual fundraiser held during Dakota Days weekend, is under the direction of Jolane Englehart, Jennifer Garelik, Pam Karantinos, Earlene McNeil Larson, Amond Hanson, Michelle Mechling and a volunteer "cast of thousands." Support for Poker Alice is provided by the South Dakota Arts Council Touring Artists Program through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and funds from the South Dakota State Legislature.
