Powwow scheduled Oct. 10 in Vermillion The Native American Day Powwow Committee invites the public to participate in a unique and culturally significant event in Vermillion. The Wase Wakpa Oyate (the Vermillion Community) is once again putting on a powwow on Sunday, Oct. 10, at the 4-H building in Vermillion in celebration of Native American Day.
In 1990, the late Governor George Mickelson declared Native American Day in South Dakota which is celebrated on the second Monday in October. Annually, Vermillion has worked to celebrate this day with a powwow.
