Seventh-graders lose to O'Gorman; turnovers are blamed for the loss Vermillion's seventh-grade football team, plagued by costly turnovers, ran into a fired-up Sioux Falls O'Gorman team and lost 35-0 on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the high school field.
With the loss, the seventh-grad team fell to 0-3 for the season.
"We probably played our poorest offensive game thus far this season," said Coach Bret Jones. "You can't turn the ball over like we did and expect to have any success. O'Gorman is a fine football team, but we gave them a short field to start their offensive series with our turnovers. Our kicking game also was a downfall in this game."
"Defensively, we played pretty well, considering the poor field position we had because of the turnovers," added Rich Kotrba. "O'Gorman has some fine athletes and I don't feel the final score was indicative of how we played, especially on defense."
Vermillion's efforts in tackling against O'Gorman included Levi Andrie with 11.
