Seventh-graders record first win of the season The seventh-grade football team recorded their first win of the season as they defeated the Bon Homme Cavaliers 26-22 in a high-scoring game at the high school field last Thursday, Oct. 7.
Kyle Mollet scored three touchdowns to lead the Redbirds to the win. With the win, the seventh-grade upped their season record to 1-3 and will close out their season on Oct. 19 at Yankton. The game will be played at the Yankton Middle School lower east field and kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m.
Kyle Mollet rushed nine times for 162 yards and scored three TDs. Jordan Anderson rushed five times for 20 yards and scored one TD. Ben Oberle rushed three times for 20 yards.
Tyler Anglin 12; Kris Leroy six and two QB sacks; Levi Andrie five and three QB sacks; Jon Miller five; Chris Teigen and Sean Peterson four each; Chad Teigen three; Jordan Anderson and Kyle Mollet two each; Kenny Mays, Josh Hanson, Jason Donald and Ben Pike one each.
"We undoubtedly played our best overall game this season," said Coach Bret Jones. "It was a great team effort and we played well both offensively and defensively. Hopefully this win will give us momentum heading into the season-ending game."
"I was really proud of the way our kids played in this game," added Rich Kotrba. "We battled back after Bon Homme had taken the lead and showed real character in the fourth quarter. It was a great win for after some tough losses earlier in the season. We have made great improvement over the course of the season and I hope we can carry this over to our last game of the year."
