Tanager cross-country teams compete in Yankton meet In a junior varsity invitational meet at Yankton, Tuesday, Oct. 12, with competition in both boys and girls divisions, and including middle school divisions, the cross-country teams completed their regular season.
First runner for Vermillion's boys fifth place team (67 points) was Ben Parsons in 12th place with a 15:53 time. Josh Kyte followed at 16th (16:34); James Clark was 22nd (17:16); and Wilber Lio at 23rd (17:34).
J.V. Tanager girls finished third with 52: Carly Bernard, 11th (19:37); Vicky Lio, 12th (19:38); Amritha Subramanium, 15th (20:01); and Kelly Peterson, 16th (20:22) .
Middle school boys competing were: Justin Manning, eighth (16:35); and Mitch Bierle ninth (16:36). The VMS girls were represented by Theresa Ring, fifth (18:08) and Sarah Plate, 15th (19:26).
According to Coach Dave Dannenbring, the JV invite was a successful meet.
"Everyone improved their times from earlier meets this year," he said. "We feel we have had a very successful season. We are ranked in the top five in the SDCC coaches poll in both boys and girls sections. We are very optimistic about the state meet and our chances in both races. Regardless of what happens, the season had many high points and we have great young people to work with."
