Tanagers defeat Gazelles in overtime action Oct. 19 The Vermillion JV Lady Tanagers defeated the Yankton Gazelles 44-41 in an exciting overtime battle in girls basketball Oct. 19 at Yankton.
The score was tied 39-39 after regulation.
Brooke Nelson made 2 of 2 free throws in overtime to put Vermillion up by 3 in the extra period to seal the win.
Nicki Mollet scored 11 points and pulled in 9 rebounds. Tessa Tuetken scored 10 points and made 4 assists.
The Lady Tanagers jumped in front 9-6 at the end of the first period, led 17-13 after the second quarter, and then led 28-27 going into the final period.
�We played solid defense, and did the little things correctly to win this game,� said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. �This includes shooting 3 for 4 from the line in OT.�
VHS improved its season mark to 9-3.
VHS hit 10 of 15 from the line while the Gazelles hit 6 of 8 from the line.
