Vermillion seventh-graders are 2-1 In their season-opener, the VMS seventh-grade Lady Tanagers rolled over the Dakota Valley Panthers 28-8 in girls basketball Sept. 9 at Dakota Valley in a win keyed by a 16-2 second-quarter edge.
Annie Carlson played an outstanding defensive game with numerous steals and assists.
�All players played very aggressive defense,� said VMS Coach Pat Lewison.
In the opening half, Vermillion had a 16-2 run.
A number of excellent individual efforts highlighted the win.
�Jackie Thomas also had a very aggressive defensive game,� Coach Lewison said. �Nine players scored in the game.�

VMS 30 � Lennox 13
The VMS seventh-grade Lady Tanagers overpowered the Lennox Orioles 30-13 in girls basketball Sept. 18 at Beresford in the first round of the Beresford 7th & 8th Grade Invitational.
Annie Carlson had an outstanding offensive and defensive game.
The Lady Tanagers went into the locker room up 18-4 at halftime.
�Everyone played together and gave good effort,� said VMS Coach Pat Lewison.
In the opening period, Vermillion scored the first 8 points of the game.
VMS improved its season mark to 2-0.

VMS 12, Beresford, 30
The VMS seventh-grade Lady Tanagers were downed by the Beresford Watchdogs 30-12 in girls basketball Sept. 18 at Beresford in the championship game of the Beresford 7th & 8th Grade Invitational.
The Tanager seventh-graders placed second in the tournament. VMS dropped its first game of the season and is now 2-1.
�Vermillion girls were clearly outplayed by a very aggressive Beresford team,� said VMS Coach Pat Lewison. �Vermillion was only allowed one shot in the first half.�
In the first half, Vermillion couldn�t advance the ball up the court.
In the final two quarters, Vermillion played even, but couldn�t make up the difference.
The Lady Tanagers trailed 19-2 after the second quarter.
