Vermillion's freshmen lose heartbreaker to Yankton Vermillion's freshman football team lost a heartbreaking 31-24 game to the Yankton Bucks at Crane-Youngworth Field in Yankton on Sept. 30.
The young Tanagers carried a 16-15 lead into the locker room at halftime, but were unable to capitalize in the fourth quarter after Yankton had regained the lead in the see-saw battle.
With the loss, the freshmen dipped to 0-6 and were next in action hosting Brookings on Oct. 5.
"It was another close, hard-fought game," said Coach Devin Schwiesow. "Defensively, we gave up some big plays to the Bucks, especially in the second half."
"Offensively, this was by far our best performance of the season," added Jason Huska. "Any time you are able to score 24 points at the freshman level, you're most likely going to put yourself in a position where you have an opportunity to win the game in the fourth quarter. This is exactly what we did but unfortunately came up a little bit short."
