VHS cross country team wins title at Alcester Invite Vermillion's Eric Dehner led the Tanagers to the Class A boys team championship at the Alcester Invitational Monday, Sept. 20.
His clocking of 15:57.51 was half-a-minute better than the second place finisher Nick Abbas of Lennox, followed at third by Jordan Thompson (VHS) with a time of 16:36.16.
Also contributing to the winning 17-point total were John Ring and Tyler Engstrom. Darryl Neufeld finished in the top 20 in the 13-team 5000-meter run for the class A division.
In the 4000-meter run for the girls, Vermillion's Kathy Plate at 16:21 was second to pace the second place team score of 28. Tanager placers were: Beth Pier � 9th, Emily Pier � 10th, Natalie Tuetken � 14th, Theresa Ring � 15th, Megan Griffith � 16th and Angie Rydell � 17th.
No JV team scores were reported.
Coach Dave Dannenbring was extremely happy with the teams' performances. He said "This was one of the best races of the season for us as a whole team. We ran with confidence and really took it to the competition."
