VHS girls tennis team loses to Washington The Tanager team lost a "squeaker" 5-4 decision to the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors on Thursday, Sept. 30.
Vanessa Noonan again scored a victory with a 7-5,6-2 decision at #6 singles defeating April Duffy (W). Anna Ristic (V) defeated Jill Weiser (W) 6-1, 6-3 at #1 singles and at #2, Maya Ristic (V) defeated Laura Brooks (W) 6-3,4-6,7-5. #3 Abby Lankhorst (W) defeated Lindsay Iverson (V) 6-3,6-3. At #4 Megan Gasler (W) defeated Laura Doohen (V) 6-0,6-3, and at #5 Liz Zwanda (W) defeated Brenda Banks (V) 6-0,3-6,6-3.
In doubles, Ristic/Ristic lost to Weiser/Brooks 6-1 6-4; Doohen/Noonan lost to Lankhorst/Gasler 7-5, 6-4; while Iverson/Tracey Walworth (V) defeated Zwanda/Duffy (W) 6-0, 6-2.
"We expect to have some recognition at the seeding session and we're looking forward to playing in the state tournament October 7-9," said Coach Barb Rickord.
The JV was able to have a complete team competition and scored very well. Tori Collins (V) deafed Katie Kaliszewski (W) 8-4; Justine Reimnitz (V) defeated Missy Hotchkin (W) 8-3; Christina Wells (V) defeated Dawn DeBoer (W) 8-2; and Jessica Leffers (V) defeated Amy Worthington (W) 8-2. In doubles, the Tanagers were victorious in five of the six matches with pairings of Tori Collins/Catherine Odson winning 8-6; Elizabeth Slagle/Britt Fremstad 8-4; Jessica Leffers/Christina Wells 8-2; Justine Reimnitz/Brenda Banks 8-2; and Jessica Leffers/Justine Reimnitz 8-3; giving the JV a 9-6 win.
