VHS Lady Tanagers beat HHS Tigers 45-38 The Vermillion High varsity Lady Tanagers downed the Harrisburg Tigers 45-38 in girls basketball Oct. 22 at Vermillion.
Ashley Bjorkman poured in 10 points, pulled down 3 rebounds, made 1 assist and 1 steal.
�Ashley Bjorkman has come into the last two games and given us a little spark on offense,� said VHS Coach Lance Luitjens. �She finds a way to get to the basket and score.�
The score was knotted 10-10 at the end of the first period, was still knotted 20-20 at halftime, then the Lady Tanagers led 34-26 going into the final period.
�It was nice to see the girls finish the game in the second half,� said Coach Luitjens. �We�ve had a difficult time late in close games, but in this night we found a way to win.�
VHS improved its season mark to 9-7, while the Harrisburg varsity fell to 10-7.
VHS sank 3 of 5 three-point attempts and connected on 6 of 11 free throw attempts. The Lady Tanagers connected on 15 of 42 field goal attempts, while Harrisburg varsity was 12 of 32 from the field. Harrisburg varsity made 1 of 4 three-point attempts and connected on 11 of 20 free throw tries.
The close win had several contributors to the cause.
�Sarah Mollet gave us some inside scoring with 8 points and Alison Obr hit a couple big 3s in the fourth quarter for us,� Coach Luitjens said.
