VHS Lady Tanagers collar MHS Bulldogs The Vermillion High varsity Lady Tanagers rolled over the Madison Bulldogs 60-36 in girls basketball Sept. 30 at Madison in a win ignited by a first-quarter blitz.
Alison Obr sank five 3-pointers to score 15 points.
The Lady Tanagers jumped in front 17-2 after the first quarter, went into the locker room up 27-16 at halftime, and then led 44-30 going into the final period.
This was our best team effort of the year so far, said VHS Coach Lance Luitjens. Defensively, we were too much for them to handle. I think the trademark of this team is our defensive intensity and pressure.
VHS improved its record to 6-4, while MHS dropped to 5-4.
VHS connected on 7 of 13 free throw tries while the Bulldogs made 15 of 23 from the line.
Several significant individual efforts contributed to the win.
Leslie Larson had a great game scoring 10 points and holding their leading scorer to 9, Coach Luitjens said. Obr got us going offensively from the perimeter which opened up the inside for our post players. Donnelly, Tuetken and Sarah Mollet combined for 20 points off the bench.
