A Veteran ? one who answered the call By Mayor William Radigan A Veteran is the young man or woman from your home or your neighbor's home who has answered their country's call in time of war.

A Veteran is someone who felt a completely unknown feeling in their insides as they raised their right hand and swore to defend this country from all her enemies whomsoever.

A Veteran is someone that did not want to go to war, but felt inches taller and a pride known only to them the first time they put on a military uniform of their beloved country.

A Veteran is someone who felt a long moment of tender love as they said goodbye to the people who meant the most to them, and felt an almost crippling loneliness as their hometown fell behind as they headed for their first military assignment.

A Veteran is the only person who can tell you how it feels to return home on a furlough just to tell everybody and everything that means anything to you goodbye as you head for some far off place to fight and perhaps die for your country.

A Veteran is someone who went where others feared to go and did what others had failed to do.

A Veteran is someone who has felt complete terror but continued to function because their country needed them.

A Veteran is someone who has felt cold, paralyzing stabs of fear, unknown to most people, but part of a service person's life, and continued to "carry on" and fight and die if necessary to obey the orders given them.

A Veteran is someone who has felt pain, cried, saw friends die, be crippled and yet never wondered why because their country called.

A Veteran is someone who asks nothing from those who gave nothing but to be recognized and cared for if their service leaves them crippled in mind or body.

A Veteran is someone who has gone in harm's way, lived through terrible ordeals, and come home to a life that can never be the same as war changes people.

A Veteran is someone who wishes they could forget the hell they had gone through, but can not as it passes through their mind time and time again as they live out their lives.

A Veteran is someone who will forever salute our flag with the feeling that they were there when Old Glory needed them and they are still ready to serve if Old Glory calls again.

A Veteran is someone who stands a little bit taller when they tell you, "I was a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine," and who will forever feel their heart miss a beat and be proud as they look you in the eye and say, "I am a veteran."
