Around the Town By Emma Drissen Vermillion's Holiday Open House last Sunday, Nov. 21, was a great kickoff to the holiday season. A big thank you to all the people who helped make it a success. When Santa flipped the switch at 5 p.m. all the city's Christmas lights came on to many ooohs and aaahs!

The "Christmas Scandia" Candlelight Tour of Homes is Friday, Dec. 3. Six homes will be beautifully decorated for the season for you to visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Ashmore's, Nook 'n Cranny, Deb's Hallmark and Vermillion Beauty Shop. Proceeds benefit the Clay County Historical Society.

Children will be able to visit with Santa on Saturdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Vermillion Theater. He'll be there every Saturday from Nov. 27 through Dec. 18. The free movies are at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. on those same dates. The children will enjoy a festive holiday Saturday!

Vermillion Bucks can be purchased at the Chamber office in denominations of $5, $10, $20 and $50 this year. These make great gifts and stocking stuffers. They can be used at local participating Chamber businesses. Vermillion Bucks keep our dollars working at home!

Be sure to mark your calendar for "Celebrate Vermillion," Dec. 31. Ring in the year 2000 with family and friends at the Coyote Student Center and the DakotaDome. There will be refreshments, games, entertainment for all ages from 7:30 p.m. till the fireworks announce the new millennium at midnight! If you would like to volunteer to help with activities, please call Rick Haught at the CSC at 677-5334.

All Chamber members are invited to an open board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chamber office. A vote will be taken on changes made on the Chamber's bylaws.

The Chamber of Commerce is proud to be part of the annual Youth Basketball Tourney Dec. 3 and 4 and Dec. 11 and 12. The tourney is held in the DakotaDome. We are asking for anyone who would like to volunteer to help at the tourney to please call the Chamber at 624-5571.

The Chamber is thankful to all of you who volunteer your time and energy to so many worthy projects in our community.
