Around the Town By Emma Drissen Tis' the season Santa Claus is coming to town! Vermillion is having its Home for the Holidays Open House on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 12 to 5 p.m. At noon, Santa will arrive by horse-drawn sleigh downtown and be in the lobby of Community First State Bank from 1 to 4:30 p.m. for the children to visit with their wish list!
All afternoon, shops will be open, sleigh rides will start in front of Community First State Bank, carolers will be strolling the streets and filling the air with holiday music and a free movie All I Want for Christmas will be shown at Vermillion Theater at 1 and 3 p.m.
Tours can be taken of the Austin-Whittemore House, Washington Street Art Center will have their "Glad Tidings Art Sale" featuring original art by local and regional artists and James Meger, nationally known artist, will be at Tigert Art Gallery to sign his works including his new print Holy Night. For parents' shopping convenience, the Vermillion Public Library will offer free babysitting from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Over 40 guests from the Newcastle, NE area will be here for the afternoon to enjoy our holiday festivities. At 5 p.m. Santa will wave good-bye from the sleigh and then flip the switch to turn on Vermillion's Christmas decorations! Let's all be part of this last Christmas holiday excitement of the 1900s!
The "Christmas Scandia" Candlelight Tour of Homes will be Friday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available at Ashmore's, Nook 'n Cranny, Deb's Hallmark and Vermillion Beauty Shop. Proceeds benefit the Clay County Historical Society. Have a wonderful week!
